Young Dons' Bad Finishing Brings Defeat

Ineffective finishing by the home forwards and stout defensive work from the visitors brought about the Young Dons' second successive defeat in the Reserve League Cup last night at Pittodrie before a 9000 crowd. in the second half especially, the home side had the better of the game but could not force the ball home.
Defences were on top throughout and a satisfactory feature from an Aberdeen point of vies was the debut of Alan Rodger from Kello Rovers. He still needs the rough edges knocked off, but he kicked and tackled well.
Also prominent in the home defence were Curran, McKenzie, Bruce, and Baikie. The attack was disappointing, though there were occasional flashed individually. East Fife stars were Easson, Proudfoot, Weir, McLennan, and Aitken.

There were tow penalty incidents in the first half. On the first occasion there seemed to be a clear case of handling by McKenzie when Matthew had a close-in shot, but the referee gave a corner. At the other end Weir appeared to be harshly penalised for a tackle on Beaton and Bruce came up to score from the spot.

Centre Hart

Within a minute Proudfoot trailed the ball up the right wing and crossed beautifully for Aitken to head in off the post.

The deciding goal came two minutes after half-time, when Aitken slipped the ball through for Gardiner to score. the centre was hurt in the process and was not so effective in the later stages. For the last half-hour the East Fife defence was overworked, but with a lot of hard work and a little luck - the ball was twice kicked off the line with the keeper beaten - they survived.
