In Montrose's last Scottish Alliance League fixture for the season, before a fair attendance on Links Park last night, Aberdeen played with wind advantage in the first half.
Aberdeen, through beautiful carpet passing made progress eastward, but the ball went into touch. Fine touches by the home right wing in connection with Duffy took Montrose well into Aberdeen territory, and McGurk missed an opportunity which should have been improved upon. By a tactical blunder Baird endangered his goal but Rennie luckily palmed clear. Duffy let a chance go abegging and after a fruitless corner Aberdeen had a run eastward for Rennie to clear cleverly from Smith, but a minute later Edward beat him with a shot from 30 yards out. A pass out to Smith produced another goal for the Dons, and Duffy tested Jamieson with a grounder. Rennie had a lovely save off Smith from close range. McLeod finished feebly off Reid's cross in a break-away, and Jamieson saved somewhat luckily from Ross Christie.
On resuming, Duffy missed a "dead snip" from Ross Christie, and next minute Stephen sent narrowly past. Duffy made a plucky attempt to head through when Jamieson clutched at a ball. Off a Neilson cross which Duffy missed, Ros, Christie ran in to score Montrose's opening goal 15 minutes after resuming. Stephen had a raking shot which Jamieson no more than cleared. Smith with swift cross registered Aberdeen's third, and Mclean netted Montrose's second off a corner taken by Neilson. Rennie cleared from Reid on time.
