Aberdeen 1 - 1 Aberdeen Junior Association Select

A team representing the Aberdeen Football Club played a select eleven of local juniors at Pittodrie yesterday afternoon. There was a fairly large attendance of spectators. Teams:-

Aberdeen: Cheyne (Turriff); Colman (Motherwell), Hume; Wilson, McIntosh, W. Low; Muir, O'Hagan, A. W. Gordon ('Varsity), Fyfe, R. Simpson.
Select Juniors: King (East End); Dignan (St Andrews Athletic), P. Murphy (Favourites); Dargie (Favourites), Shand (Parkvale), Ross (East End); Murray (East End), Simpson (East End), Walker (Victoria Thistle), Sim (Shamrock), Giles (Parkvale).

With Aberdeen taking matters easy at the outset, the game rolled pretty even, but later the pressure by Aberdeen began to be noticeable. The Junior backs, especially Murphy, played strong defensive football. The most prominent payer in the Aberdeen front line were Muir and O'Hagan, the former especially sending across some great passes, which, however, were badly muddled by his partners again and again. McIntosh, getting his foot on the ball at close range, beat King with a fast shot, but within a minute the Juniors had equalised. Sim carried the ball up the left wing, beating the backs, and crossed to Simpson, who scored a splendid goal.

The second period was productive of some excitement at both ends, but there was some lamentable efforts at shooting. Bobby Simpson went into the centre position, and Gordon and Fyfe on the left wing were exceedingly weak, most of the attacking work being done by Muir and O'Hagan on the left. The Aberdeen halves worked fairly well together, but the occasion was no real test for Wilfred Lowe, made his first appearance. Colman, the new back from Motherwell, was the centre of much attention, but whether he will provide that improvement so much desired in the Aberdeen defence remains to be seen. The new back found Sim, the Juniors' inside left, a difficult man to hold, while the Juniors' right wing was also a source of trouble. There were occasional good combined efforts by the Select halves and forwards, but as time wore on Aberdeen confined most of the play to King's end, where there was a good deal of strong shooting, but generally of an indifferent order. King did some fine saving, however, with well directed shots, and on more than one occasion saved his side.
