The young Dons ended their Premier Reserve League campaign with a 1-1 draw against Dundee at Dens Park - their fourth division of the points with the Tayside team this season. The disappointment of dropping a point in a game which, on chances created, they should have won comfortably was some¬what offset by the performance of the youngsters who were strongly represented in the Aberdeen team on this occasion.
Apart from youth team players such as Stephen Glass, Craig Ireland, Robert Bell and Kevin Christie, who were all in the starting line-up, the Dens Park game saw David Craig given his first Premier Reserve outing when he replaced Dereh Reeley for the final 20 minutes. Trying out a new formation with three men at the back, the young Dons had a sticky first half, but reverting to a more familiar 4-4-2 set-up after the interval brought about a significant improvement. A Scott Thomson header, following leading-up work by Reeley and Derek Adams, gave Aberdeen the lead in 55 minutes, and thereafter the visitors created a number of openings, their scoring attempts including Ireland and Glass each being foiled by the woodwork. Dundee, however, took advantage of a defensive misunderstanding to snatch the equaliser seven minutes before the end.
The frequency of draws such as that at Dens Park has been a frustrating feature of this season's Premier Reserve League programme.
