Although the superior team, Aberdeen took only a single point from their Premier Reserve League
visit to Tynecastle with a goal-less draw against Hearts. The visitors created the better chances, but a combination of not making the most of these and failure to circumvent Hearts' defence-in-depth tactics denied the young Dons the victory they wanted to reinforce their title challenge. An encouraging feature of the game, however, was the contribution made by the younger element of the Aberdeen team. The starting line-up again included Kevin Christie and Craig Ireland, while Robert Bell made his first Premier Reserve League appearance when he was substituted for the injured Derek Reeley on the hour mark.
