Aberdeen travelled to Links Park to meet Dundee United with confidence high off the back of successive Development League wins and a successful start to their Youth Cup campaign. The Tangerines have made a stuttering start to their league season, winning two and losing six of their opening eight fixtures.

United started very brightly and almost created an opening immediately from the kick off but Sam Roscoe was alert to the danger and blocked well from Piggott. Aberdeen responded quickly and Roscoe was unlucky to see his close range header crash off the post after a fine Toby Wells free kick from wide out on the right. On 11 minutes some fine interplay between Ethan Ross and Wells saw the latter fire over an inviting cross but it somehow evaded the inrushing Dangana and Hutchison.
Both sides were working hard but finding it hard to create openings. Wells was prominent breaking into good positions on the left but wasn't able to pick out a man in blue with his final ball. Davidson almost got Taylor clear for United but the Dons defence kept a great line and left the striker in an offside position. On 33 minutes a fine move saw Joe MacPherson slip the ball inside for Seb Ross whose shot was tipped wide by Donaldson. The strike looked like it was slipping just inside the post until the keeper's intervention - a fine save.
After a spell of United pressure Seb Ross broke clear down the right and picked out Lewis Hutchison in the box but he dragged his shot wide. Moments later Dean Campbell fired just over after good lead up play from Dangana and the lively Seb Ross. Five minutes from the break the deadlock was broken when Sam Roscoe broke into the heart of the United half before slipping the ball to Seb Ross who knocked the ball into the net. A deserved lead for the Dons and a fifth league goal of the season for Seb.
The scoreline would suggest a fairly even first half but the Dons were more threatening in attack and were good value for the lead.

Half time Dundee United 0 Aberdeen 1

Neither coach made any changes at the interval. The impressive Sam Roscoe took a knock early in the half but was able to resume after treatment. However he went down for a second time shortly afterwards and had to come off, Ryan Harrington coming on and showing his versatility as he slotted into central defence. Piggott had a chance for United but scuffed his shot wide just before Connor McLennan came on for Hutchison.
The Dons went 2-0 up in 64 minutes when Toby Wells' free kick was fumbled into the net by keeper Donaldson. Undoubtedly a blunder by the keeper but Toby will still claim the goal. United made a triple switch immediately after the goal, Chalmers, Glass and Allardice coming on for Piggott, Inglis and McMeekin. Glass almost made an instant impact, shooting narrowly wide as United desperately looked for a way into the match. Wells was booked in 73 minutes for a push on Taylor and substitute Chalmers fired the resulting free kick past Mair from 25 yards to throw United a lifeline.
Dangana was yellow carded on 78 minutes for preventing a free kick being taken. A minute later the Dons restored their two goal advantage when McLennan fed the ball through for skipper Dean Campbell to net from eight yards. McLennan was denied by the legs of Donaldson after good work from Seb Ross just before Dangana was withdrawn, Bruce Anderson coming on for the last few minutes.
Glass was booked for a daft challenge on Campbell just before the final whistle blew on a third successive league win for Paul Sheerin's boys. A well merited victory for Aberdeen who are beginning to get some real momentum going - another fine team performance.
