DEWAR SHIELD QUALIFYING GAME AT BUCKIE
Aberdeen "A" won the second of the Dewar Shield qualifying round matches by defeating Buckie Thistle at Buckie last night by three clear goals. The players wore black armlets, and two minutes' silence was observed at the start of the game as a tribute to Mr W. D. Hay, a director of Aberdeen F.C., whose funeral took place yesterday. Buckie pressed at the start, and Calder was fouled when going through. Milne also went close with a fine shot. In a Buckie break-away, Milne shot over, while Wood's charge had a narrow escape when Smith drove hard from a cross from the right. Aberdeen took the lead when Warnock scored from a penalty awarded against John Bowie. Buckie were fighting hard for the equaliser, and penalty claim was not granted. Soon after the resumption, Taylor, the Aberdeen inside left, struck the crossbar. Shortly afterwards W. Scott scored a second goal for Aberdeen from close in. A soft shot by Calder for Buckie was easily cleared. Taylor headed Aberdeen's third goal. Buckie pressed strongly towards the end but their efforts were in vain..Source: Press & Journal, 29th April 1937
