RITCHIE SMITH AND W. SCOTT ON MARK
Aberdeen A and Galston at Pittodrie was the only Alliance match to be played on Saturday. The pitch had a hard "bone" in it, and the players had great difficulty in keeping their feet. The Young Dons had little difficulty in overcoming Galston. For the greater part of the first half they were in the visitors' goal area, but it was some time before they could get past Miller, who was playing well in the Galston goal. Skea did not find the slippery ground much of a disadvantage, and revealed clever touches. He combined well with Taylor and they were Aberdeen's most dangerous wing. A free kick for Aberdeen was taken by Dunlop, who just missed converting, Miller saving well. Then Ritchie Smith just failed to head home a cross from Taylor. In Galston's first raid they almost took the lead. Erskine was beaten in a tackle and Clark fastened on to cannon the ball against the crossbar. Cassidy ran in but his first timer went over the bar. The Aberdeen reserves were soon back at Galston's end, and took the lead in spectacular fashion. Smith cutting in to crash the ball on the run into the net. Four minutes later, Aberdeen added another goal from penalty. Smith taking the kick. Miller killed the shot and had hard luck not to save. Aberdeen being two goals up at half-time. The second half was much more ragged, but the home side was still superior. W. Scott had all Aberdeen's three goals in this half, though Smith was instrumental in the scoring of them. The forwards worked well together, the only weak link being G. Scott. Several times he brought promising moves to an end by failing to find his man with his passes.Source: Press & Journal, 20th December 1937
