Aberdeen Under-18 squad's hopes of completing a cup-and-league double ended in disappointing fashion when Hearts, whom they had beaten twice in league games, turned the tables with a 3-2 victory in a B.P. Youth Cup semi-final at Tynecastle.
The Pittodrie colts made a promising start when a Michael Hart cut-back was netted by Derek Young, but the visitors' early lead turned into a 3-1 deficit by the interval. All the Aberdeen youngsters had to show for the second-half improvement was a second goal by Young, following a Baldur Bett free kick.
This was the fourth game in succession in which Young had scored twice, bringing his season's tally in youth and reserve-team games to 33.
