Aberdeen 'A' Trounce Motherwell 'A'

Aberdeen "A" gave a bright display at Pittodrie where, before 7000 spectators, they overwhelmed Motherwell "A" by ten goals to one. From goal outwards the Pittodrie reserves held the advantage, but where their superiority was most apparent was at half-back.
Aberdeen made the running from the start, and Mason saved well from Merrie and Jackson. In a Motherwell breakaway Blackwell held from Bone. Determined pressure by the Home team was rewarded when, after twenty minutes, Merrie took advantage of a mistake by Brown to open the scoring. The ball had no sooner been re-centred than David accepted a pass from Merrie to add a second goal. The home team was rampant after this, and from a free-kick outside the penalty area McLaren notched another goal.

Fast Scoring.

Motherwell retaliated and forced two corners, from the second of which Blackwell punched clear. McKenzie was prominent on the Aberdeen left, and after striking the upright gave Mason a great drive to hold. The visitors' defence caved in at this stage, and David and Merrie added goals in rapid succession. In a counter-attack by Motherwell Watson scored, but the goal was chalked off for off-side. Just on the interval Falloon brought the home total to six.
Immediately on the resumption Mason saved from David and McLeod. The home team, despite the fact that they had slackened off, were very much superior. With fifteen minutes gone, David counted, and during the short absence of Stevenson, the visitors' right winger, McLeod added an eighth goal. McKenzie missed a splendid chance, and then, in an unexpected Motherwell rally, Douglas found the net. The revival was short-lived, however, and Falloon quickly added to the home total. Towards the close tempers became ruffled, and Wilson was injured and had to leave the field. Aberdeen were awarded a penalty, from which Merrie scored a tenth goal.
