Fine Performance at Celtic Park.
Aberdeen A made a line start to the season by sharing the Alliance League points with Celtic A at Parkhead. The Pittodrie reserves may have been a trifle lucky, but, nevertheless, they put up fine show, considering that the team included seven new men, two of whom were East End juniors, Jermison and Gill. Bunty Mills, brother of Willie Mills, who was at centre-forward for the homesters, had not the best of luck with his shooting. Repeatedly he hit the bar or the post with the 'keeper beaten. Others to shine in the home team were Morrison, Dawson, and Fagan. For Aberdeen A Westland. Stewart, Gavin, Warnock, Scott, and Devine were seen to advantage.Westland Saves Penalty.
Both teams had periods of ascendancy in the first half, but the defences prevailed. Westland was the hero of the Aberdeen team, and thirteen minutes from the interval he brought off a miraculous save from a penalty. Shortly afterwards Warnock put the Young Dons ahead with a shot which left Foley helpless. Celtic A were the masters in the second period, and after Fitzsimmons had equalised the visitors' defence was kept busy. Westland was in inspired form, and he and Gavin did much to keep the scores level.Source: Press & Journal, 12th August 1935
