Great Burst of Scoring in Second Half.
Poor fare was served up at Pittodrie on Saturday, when the Aberdeen and Motherwell reserve teams met in an Alliance League fixture. Both sets of forwards were weak, but on the whole the Young Dons were a little unfortunate to lose a point. There was hardly an incident of note during the first forty-five minutes, but play was a little livelier after the resumption. The feature of game was a great burst of scoring twenty minutes after the start of the second half. Four goals were scored within twelve minutes, the first three in the space of four minutes. Aberdeen "A" went ahead when Ritchie smashed the ball home from a free-kick, but right from the kick-off the Fir Park reserves went downfield for Wyllie to send the ball past Westland. Two minutes later Wyllie repented the feat, when Westland failed hold a cross from Newman which came off the bar. Aberdeen made desperate efforts, and when D. reid shot, McArthur could only palm down the ball for Scott to score. Both teams fought hard for the winning goal, and W. Reid almost made the issue safe for the home team with a great drive from a free kick. The ball struck the angle of the bar and the post with McArthur helpless. Scott completely missed the rebound. For Aberdeen "A." Westland got little to do in goal, but was at fault when the second goal was scored. Stewart was not too sure at back, but Temple, the former King's Park player, who was making his first appearance of the season created a favourable impression. Ritchie was the best half-back, although Willox (Richmond) kept a firm grip on Wyllie. In attack, Donny Reid, the diminutive East End inside-right, was the star. Reid had more shots for goal than the rest of the forwards put together, and he frequently took the eye with clever dribbling. Both Bain and Scott had a poor match. For Motherwell "A," Sinclair, Pollock, Newman, Farmer and Winning were best.Source: Press & Journal, 19th August 1935
