OPENING OF JUNIOR GROUND.
Seniors Too Strong For Mannofield Side.
To mark the opening of the ground at Cranford Road, tenanted by Mannofield and Banks 0' Dee, Aberdeen "A" played a friendly match with Mannofield. There was a satisfactory attendance of 500. As was only to be expected, the seniors proved too strong for the new junior combine, but the latter put up a plucky light, and were a little unfortunate not to open their account. They have several promising players, and once they have settled down Mannofield should cause a stir among the juniors. Somerville and Gordon are two strong backs, the former having some fine clearances.Strong Halves.
At half-back, Gilchrist and Comrie, the former Richmond player, were best. Gilchrist never gave up trying. The outstanding forward was undoubtedly Chrystall. The left winger was rather subdued in the first half, but in the second period he gave Stewart some anxious moments. Scott was the only other forward to do anything of note. Devine opened the scoring for the Young Dons, following which Scott rattled on a quick hat-trick. Before the interval Smith made the total five. Play was more even in the second half, but before the end Bain and Devine increased the Aberdeen "A" total to seven.Source: Press & Journal, 4th September 1935
