With Little Luck Would Have Taken Both Points
Aberdeen "A" are still undefeated in the Alliance League, and with a little luck they would have taken two points instead of one at Firhill. Gourlay was a stumbling block to the young Dons, the Firhill reserve 'keeper being in an inspired mood. After McLennan, the former Buckie Thistle player, had put the homesters ahead in two minutes, the young Dons accounted for the bulk the pressure, and should not have been in arrears at the interval. They made amends soon after the resumption. Scott, who led the attack line in style, equalised within a few minutes, and shortly afterwards Ritchie Smith had a fine run down the left and finished with a shot which left Gourlay helpless. The 'keeper effected many fine saves after this, and there was no more scoring until near the end when Wylie levelled matters in a scramble in front of Bennett. For Aberdeen "A," Temple, Gavin, Bain, Scott, and Smith were best. The latter was in sprightly form on the left wing, and gave the Thistle defence a busy afternoon. Hugh Baigrie, the former Woodside junior, was the outstanding personality in the Partick Thistle team, apart from Gourlay, while Busby was a clever inside forward.Source: Press & Journal, 9th September 1935
