Overdue Goal Scored by Ritchie Smith
Aberdeen "A." still continue at the head of affairs in the Alliance League, but by only taking a point at Rugby Park their position is less secure. Killie, with whom they drew on Saturday, are still second from the top, two points behind, but Rangers "A," with three games in hand are only three points short of the Young Dons' total. Aberdeen "A," however, were unlucky not to get both points from a game in which they were the smarter team. The visitors were the more likely lot at the start, but their first really dangerous effort came twenty-five minutes after kick-off through Gavin. Brown, however saved smartly. Then the homesters retaliated and Westland had to save from Kenmuir and Black. Rather unexpectedly, the Young Dons went into the lead after thirty-eight minutes. Brown dropped a shot from Gavin, and Ritchie Smith piloted the bail into the net. Although it was a rather soft goal it was long overdue. After this, Aberdeen were the superior lot. On resuming Strauss and Devers changed places, Devers filling the centre-forward berth, and Strauss going to inside-right, and immediately the Young Dons forced two corners. Neither, however, was improved upon. Aberdeen were unlucky not to go into the lead soon after when they were granted a penalty for Anderson fouling Brown. Temples spot kick, however, struck the post and the ball rebounded into play and was cleared. The equaliser four minutes after this let-off, Kenmuir netting from the penalty spot.Source: Press & Journal, 13th January 1936
