Four-Goal Victory Over Dundee "A"
In a fast game, in which plenty of clever football was seen, Aberdeen A entered the second round of the Second XI Cup on Saturday, when, at Pittodrie, they defeated Dundee A by four goals to nil. Indeed, had the Young Dons taken all their chances they would have won by an even greater margin.Better Team All Over
The homesters were the better team all over and soon proved their superiority. Within ten minutes they were a goal ahead. They were awarded a penalty for hands and from the spot kick Scott made no mistake. The exchanges were lively and keen, and near the close of the half the Young Dons went further ahead. Brown fastened on to a rebound to send high into the corner of the net. After the change of ends Aberdeen continued to show their superiority, and within fifteen minutes were rewarded, Reid scoring a great goal from twenty-five yards' range. Dundee strove hard to reduce the leeway, but they had to contend with grand defenders, who were giving nothing away, and in another spurt near the close the Young Dons got a fourth. Ritchie Smith accepted a pass from Devers and slammed the ball home.Deserved to Win
Aberdeen "A" certainly deserved to win. They were the better lot all round. But for a few slips the defence was sound, as was their half-back line, Gavin, at centre-half, and Ritchie, at left half, being the most outstanding players on the field. The front rank was well led by Scott, but most prominent of the five were Devers and Ritchie Smith, who proved themselves an effective and dangerous combination. The Dundee defence had always plenty to do, but their best players were seen on the left. Innes, at left-half, tackled and distributed the ball well, while Linton and McNaughton were tricky on the left.Source: Press & Journal, 10th February 1936
