South African Recruit on Mark
Aberdeen ' A" still continue at the head of affairs the Alliance League. Their fine victory over Galston Saturday has strengthened their position, and they now stand three points ahead of Rangers "A," who, however, have two matches in hand. It seems as if the championship race will be fought to a finish between these two teams. A feature of the game with Galston was the scoring two goals by Strauss, Aberdeen's recruit from South Africa. The left winger was in good form, and counted twice in quick succession near the interval. The Young Dons attack made its presence felt straight away. Currie, the home goalkeeper, having deal with fast shots from both wings. The game was only fifteen minutes old when Aberdeen went into the lead, Brown netting with a fine shot. This was nullified soon afterwards, however, when Galston were awarded a penalty, from which Crosbie equalised. Galston were rarely dangerous, however, and it came no surprise when Bain restored the Young Dons' lead. Then, just before the interval, Strauss came into the picture, scoring two goals.Persistent Attack
After the restart the Aberdeen defence had to look lively to deal with a persistent home attack. Temple and Stewart were steady in defence, however, and were able to cope with the situation. After a spell of give-and-take play the Aberdeen defence reasserted itself, and Currie was again in action to bring off a full-length save from Bain. Before he could gather the ball properly Scott had it in the net to bring the visitors' total up to five. The Young Dons were never seriously troubled by Galston's second half challenge, and, all over, were the smarter lot.Source: Press & Journal, 16th March 1936
