Runaway Victory for Aberdeen "A"
Aberdeen A had a runaway victory over Queen of the South A at Pittodrie on Saturday. The game was to one-sided - except for a spell at the start - to be very interesting, as the young Dons always held the whip hand. A feature of the match was the splendid display by Strauss, Aberdeen's South African recruit, who was in good form. So well did he play that he found the net on four occasions, and would probably have had bigger total had the goal posts not stopped one or two of his shots.More Impressive Side
The young Dons were the more impressive lot all over. They were sound in defence. In fact, Westland, in goal, was rarely in action, while he was well covered by Temple and Urquhart. Stewart was a smart left-half, while Willox, the Richmond junior player, who deputised at centre-half for Gavin, had the measure of his man. Strauss was Aberdeen's outstanding forward, but in Scott they had good leader, while Devine and Bain were a tricky right-wing combination. Queen of the South were best served their inside forwards, Bell and Burns. The young Dons were four goals ahead the interval, the net being found by Devine, Strauss and Scott, twice. After the restart Bell opened the visitors' account, but a few minutes later Strauss scored for the homesters and went on complete his hat-trick. Bain added a seventh, while Bell again scored for the visitors, this time from a penalty. Strauss completed the scoring near the end.Source: Press & Journal, 23rd March 1936
