Honours in Hard Game go to Aberdeen 'A'
Aberdeen "A " strengthened their bid to retain the Alliance League championship when they defeated Galston by four goals to two at Galston. The Young Dons took the honours in the game, their positional play, especially in the first half, being markedly superior to that of the homesters. The Young Dons were well served in every department, but Lang and Warnock, the wingers, were the outstanding players. Galston were first to be dangerous and in the first minute went into the lead. Robertson beat Johnstone with a first-time shot after working the ball close in. Galston's lead was short-lived. Scott equalised after five minutes' play, and Lang put the Young Dons ahead a few minutes later. The homesters fought back, and Low nearly did the trick, but the upright prevented a goal. Near the interval, Galston drew level, Holland scoring from a penalty for a foul on Robertson. Aberdeen "A" still had the better of play, and soon after the interval went ahead into the lead again, Warnock heading in to beat Currie. Following a series of shots Scott, the Aberdeen centre put the ball past Currie to put the visitors two goals ahead. Unfortunately, however, in an effort to clear, Currie fractured his collar-bone, and had to be carried off. Galston staged a revival, and Johnstone had to deal with good shots from Holland and Law. Towards the close good football was at a discount.Source: Press & Journal, 2nd November 1936
