TWO CELTIC "A" PLAYERS GET " HAT-TRICK "
Aberdeen " A," with a weakened team, fell heavily to the Celtic reserves in an Alliance League match at Parkhead. The Young Dons, although fighting hard throughout, were well beaten. Owing to the calls of the League team and an injury to Kelly, the new Aberdeen South African goalkeeper, the Aberdeen reserves, as they had to do last week, fielded two junior players. They were Murray, Stonehaven, who turned out in goal, and Russell, Banks o' Dee, who occupied the left back berth. The Young Dons' attack was early prominent. Warnock and Scott giving the Celtic defence an anxious time until Doyle dispossessed the centre in the nick of time. In ten minutes Celtic took the lead, Murray fastening on to slip by Fitzsimmons to score despite vigorous claims by the visitors for offside. Soon afterwards Mackie, the Young Dons' right half, collapsed, and had to leave the field. During his absence two goals were scored in as many minutes by Murray and Fitzsimmons. After Mackie's return the Young Dons steadied a little, but by that time Celtic "A" were on top, and before the interval Murray scored again to complete his hattrick. Anderson added a fifth. Celtic had the better of play after the resumption, and Anderson brought their total to six. In an Aberdeen revival Scott and Temple reduced the leeway, but Anderson netted again for the home side, to complete his hat-trick. The Young Dons were well beaten. They fell away after a bright opening.Source: Press & Journal, 27th September 1937
