YOUNG DONS RATTLE ON SIX WITHOUT REPLY
Although Aberdeen "A" always demonstrated their superiority in their game with Queen of the South "A" under Alliance League auspices at Pittodrie on Saturday, it was not until the second half was well under way that they opened the scoring to begin a rout of the visitors. However, when the scoring did begin it came quickly, and often spectacularly. Both Willie Scott, the home centre, and Warnock, on the right wing, had hattricks.PROMISING START
The game opened promisingly for the Young Dons, and they could always get in touch with Mair in the visiting goal, yet when it came to shooting things didn't go right for them somehow, although there was no lack of trying. W. Scott, in particular, was tireless in his efforts to get past Mair. It was obvious, however, that Queen's strong point was their defence, and McKenzie, at right-half, and Mair were playing brilliantly. Ritchie Smith and Warnock were dangerous on the wings, and it was from a move by them that the Young Dons almost took the lead. Warnock got clean through, but instead of shooting he squared to Smith, who was coming up in support. Everything pointed to a goal, but at the crucial moment Queen's defender dashed in nip the ball from Smith.FIRST THREAT
Queens for the first time were threatening, and in a concerted move bore down on Kelly's goal, but were pulled up for offside. But Aberdeen returned to the attack, and Ritchie Smith, who was very lively on the wing, cleverly beat his vis-a-vis to send in a fierce, low drive which Mair just managed to touch round for a corner. The second half started likewise, in the homesters favour, and it was tantalising that they did not take the lead. They were being baulked this all-important goal badly by their own eagerness to score and by Mair's brilliance in goal. Warnock had a great chance to give his side the lead when W. Scott neatly put him in possession in front of goal but the winger shot straight at Mair when he had plenty of time to pick his spot in the net.RIOT OF SCORING
It was then that the goals riot started Smith the Queens right back, missed his clearance, and the home centre was on the spot to send home. Now that they had got a start, there was no stopping the Young Dons. Warnock followed Scott's goal with a neatly-taken effort. Ritchie Smith actually made the goal, but his oblique shot was partially cleared by Mair, and Warnock ran in to finish off. Then came W. Scott's turn again. This time it was an individual effort! Bringing the ball under control, he beat Mair, who was rushing from his charge, to send into an empty goal. Warnock followed this with a smartly-taken goal which crowned good work by Ritchie Smith and W. Scott. Smith crossed a lovely ball from the left, and W. Scott headed it on to Warnock. The right winger neatly placed the ball in the net. The Young Dons were now continually on the attack, and Warnock got his own third and his side's fifth goal. Again the move started on the left with Ritchie Smith. He made ground on the wing and sent across beautiful ball which Warnock nodded home. The rout of Queen of the South was not yet over. Aberdeen's sixth and last goal was a penalty, and brought W. Scott's total to three.Source: Press & Journal, 7th March 1938
