Cup Hopes Dashed

RANGERS "A" LUCKY TO WIN

M'GILL HERO OF DEFENCE

With everything pointing to a replay at Pittodrie as a result of a goalless draw at Ibrox, Dons had their Cup hopes rudely shattered two minutes from time by a snap goal from Woodburn, Rangers "A's" centre-half, in the semi-final of the Second XI. Cup.
It was very hard luck on Aberdeen "A" who until then had managed to obstruct the efforts of a sparkling forward line.

DEFENCE SUPREME

Once again it was the defence that took all the honours in the Aberdeen side.
After a shaky start McGill & Co settled down and broke up the Blues' attacks.
Steve Smith played very well in the Aberdeen goal, but it was McGill who was the personality in the rear trio. At the start Turnbull was very lively and had the Young Dons' right back in difficulty, but in a short time McGill found the way to subdue him.
Thomson at centre half had a handful in Thornton, but that the elusive Rangers' centre was not so successful as usual was largely due to the pivot.
Aberdeen were not of much account forward. Ritchie Smith was the best of the five and was a constant source of danger to McLatchie. W. Scott as a bustler, but McKenzie was completely out of the picture.

POWER LACKING

Skea had good ideas in attack, but he has not yet sufficient power to carry them out.
Rangers "A" started off with a bang and their precise passing kept the visiting defence on the stretch. The Young Dons then came away strongly, and they kept hammering at Jenkins' goal but could not open the scoring.
On the restart Harrison missed a glorious chance. The Young Dons defence now had the measure of the Light Blues' attack and time and again foiled promising moves.
Then two minutes from the end came Rangers' goal that put an end to Aberdeen "A's" cup career.
