CATHKIN RESERVES NEVER IN THE HUNT
The Aberdeen " A " forwards ran amok at Cathkin. where, as the score indicates, the home reserves were outplayed in all departments. Leading 5-1 at the interval, the Young Dons slackened off a bit later, although Brady, always ready to have pop at goal, got a hat-trick in this period. The first half was a "procession" for the visitors, who were seldom out of Third Lanark territory. Hume, relegated from the League side, showed them the way to goal with two counters early on, and W. Scott, taking a lesson, added two more. A temporary revival by the homesters saw " Newman " beat Kelly, but George Scott restored the Young Dons' lead before the interval. The second half was more or less a repetition of the first. Brady was keen to be among the marksmen, and three times he piloted the ball past Muir. The loss of eight goals did not show the home defence in a good light, but Muir had no chance with the goals, while McCulloch played a stuffy game at right-half. The Thirds forwards were well held throughout. The visitors' defence was not tested, but all did their work well, while in a fast attack. Hume was prominent with good leading-out work. W. "Scott' at centre forward kept the home defence busy.Source: Press & Journal, 22nd August 1938
