ABERDEEN RESERVES BACK TO WINNING FORM
Although Aberdeen reserves returned to winning form in this Reserve League engagement at Pittodrie. they did not emerge from the encounter with much credit. There was not much skilful play, but at times there was plenty of wholehearted effort. An unfortunate incident near the close marred the match, Boyle, Hibs' right back, being ordered off. Another feature was the fact that three penalties were granted, and all of them converted, none of the infringements being under the new rule. Brady is the first Aberdeen reserve player to score from the spot this season, and he found the net in fourteen minutes Aberdeen did most of the attacking, and Taylor headed a second goal, but Boyle reduced the deficit from penalty close on half-time. Brady scored again from another penalty, granted when Devlin handled. Shortly after this Grant went off injured, and Hibs came more into the game. Farrell reduced the leeway, but despite determined efforts they failed to equalise. For the homesters. Kelly had several good saves, but the backs were not impressive under pressure. Grant was a strong man at centre-half, while Mackie and Waddell were hard workers. Hume was the cleverest member of the attack, while Brady took the eye with tricky footwork and hard shots. For the visitors, Morrison, Boyle. Scott, Smith and Davidson were most impressive.Source: Press & Journal, 26th September 1938
