BUT LITTLE CLASS PLAY SEEN AT PITTODRIE
There was plenty of hard graft, but little scientific play in the Reserve League game at Pittodrie. where the verdict undoubtedly went to the superior team. The home side, which showed many changes from the previous week, was not so nippy as usual, and many chances were lost. The visitors, too, were rash in their finishing efforts, and their best marksman was Landsborough, right half-back. Pattillo showed good moves for the homesters in the early stages, and in twelve minutes brought about the first goal. He crossed from the left and McMurdo pushed out his cross to Baird, who had an easy chance. The centre was also concerned in the second goal a minute later. He robbed Watson and slipped a nice pass out Penrose, who crossed nicely for Williams to slip the ball into the net. That completed the in the first half. McMurdo having several fine saves in the visitors' gaol. He was beaten in the first minute of the second half, however. when Penrose headed through. The scoring was completed in eight minutes when Landsborough ploughed his way through before beating Kelly with a drive which found its way to the top of the net. But for rash finishing efforts Queen's might have reduced the leeway still further. There were no stars in the home team for whom Kelly, Clark (Inchgarth), Nicholson, and Baird were best. Pattillo fell away after a good start. McMurdo was a grand 'keeper for the Dumfries side, who were also well served by Landsborough, Watson, and Oakes.Source: Press & Journal, 28th November 1938
