Young Dons Have Easy Win in Capital
ABERDEEN reserves scored a sound 4-1 victory over Hibs "A" at Easter Road last night in a Reserve League match. The teams were level with one goal each at the interval, but the visitors were the better balanced lot and always looked potential winners. Hibs were first to score, Ross, the left winger, cutting in to deliver a terrific shot which Kelly got his hands to but could not stop. Aberdeen drew level through Pattillo after smart work by Hume. Early in the second half Pattillo put the visitors ahead. Biggs put him through, and although Gourlay stopped his shot Pattillo fastened on to the rebound to score.HAT-TRICK
When the Dons' leader completed his hat-trick the issue was more or less decided. This goal came as the result of a well-conceived attack. It started with "Newman," an Edinburgh junior whom Aberdeen had on trial at outside right, and was continued by Pattillo and Williams, the centre finally sending home a header from the South African. Hume headed a fourth goal. Aberdeen's best players were Kelly, Cooper, all three half-backs (with Taylor outstanding), Pattillo and Biggs.Source: Press & Journal, 18th April 1939
