'VALE TREATED TO CLEVER DISPLAY
FORCEFUL tactics and excellent positional play gained for Aberdeen decisive victory in their friendly game with Deveronvale at Banff last night. The home team, however, engineered several dangerous raids, and if they had had the marksmen the margin of their defeat would have been much less.TWO QUICK GOALS
The teams did not enjoy the best of weather conditions, and despite the cold the match attracted an attendance of 1600. Deveronvale were slow to settle down, and in five minutes were two goals in arrears, Pattillo and Williams being the marksmen. Although the 'Vale gradually improved the visitors' goal was never really in danger in this half. Before halftime Pattillo netted twice to make the score 4-0. Deveronvale had a larger share of the attack in the second half but they missed several good scoring chances. Clever play by the visitors resulted in Hamilton and Pattillo bringing the Aberdeen total to six. About five minutes from time C. Cormack scored for Deveronvale to make amends for several chances which he had spoiled.Source: Press & Journal, 27th April 1939
