ABERDEEN'S latest South African recruits, Preston and Botha, showed up well in the Young Dons' game with Falkirk "A" at Brockville yesterday. The result was a 2-2 draw.
Falkirk had four trialists - two backs and the left wing - and it is curious that both their goals were scored by the new forwards.
Watson was not responsible for the goals scored against him. It took Aberdeen a long time to settle and the keen tackling of the Falkirk mid-line held Aberdeen's apparently loose attack.
The Pittodrie side, however, would not have been down a goal at the interval had Martin and Yorston taken early chances presented. Their two second-half goals, scored after fifteen minutes, were evidence of a great revival.
Martin suffered a leg injury in the second half, and was off the field for five minutes. Following his return the Dons attacked hard, and, with a touch of luck, might have emerged winners.
The opening goal was got by Falkirk in five minutes, Johnstone beating Watson, who was crowded out by the close interchange of play in his immediate front.
When Falkirk got their second, through Duncan, five minutes after the resumption, it looked ominous for the Dons, but Botha's clever reply in two minutes put a better complexion on things. This first goal on British soil by the South African was hailed with genuine delight by all. Colman's equaliser was the result of a direct drive, and completely deceived Carrie.
