THE score hardly did justice to the northern side. Opening play was even, with the Aberdeen attack showing well, particularly Botha and Glen on the right wing.
It was from this source that the home goal was frequently endangered, but in the main was a one-sided attack.
Motherwell had Leitch, an opportunist centre forward. He was given plenty of opportunities, from one of which he scored after twenty minutes. Five minutes after the resumption Callander equalised.
Motherwell recovered, however, and after ten minutes Leitch scored again. Misfortune befell the Aberdeen defence later, when a penalty was given against them for handling, and Johnston converted the spot kick.
Cooper and McGuire formed a strong defensive link for the Dons, the former being the mainstay of the defence.
Two goals down, Aberdeen launched a series of strong attacks in the last twenty minutes but failed to improve their position, and shortly before the finish Leitch scored a fourth goal for the home side.
