ABERDEEN reserves scored their first victory of the season last night at Pittodrie, when they won a Reserve League fixture.
The result was right. Once the Pittodrie inside forwards, McCall and Hume, cut out some of the frills in the second half the Young Dons were undoubtedly the better team.
On last night's showing Aberdeen have few players yet ready for the first team. Bruce was all right in goal and Cooper was steady enough at back. McVean showed sound constructive ideas at right half and Callander was an energetic leader. His two goals testify to his opportunism.
Cruickshank, Banks o' Dee, who was given a trial at outside left, was prominent in the opening stages, but saw little of the ball in the second period.
Callander opened the scoring in five minutes. Lucas and Kenny went for the ball and before either could clear the centre nipped in to turn it into the net.
With twenty-eight minutes played newlands parried a shot from Cruickshank. The winger regained possession and his second attempt was handled by a defender. McCall scored from the spot.
Two minutes after the restart St Mirren "A " reduced the leeway. When Reid sent the ball to Crowe, the inside man turned for Telford to score.
The Young Dons were overdue a goal when Callander smartly took advantage of a mix up between Lucas and Kenny to send into the net.
