Young Ones Stay In Command
Dons Reserves strengthened their hold on the leading place in the Premier Reserve League with their 3-2 home victory over Hamilton, achieved on a day when Rangers were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Dundee United.
Even so it was a very mixed display by an experienced reserve side when, after taking a 3-0 lead, they relaxed a shade and Accies hit back twice for a nail-biting finish. Two features of that game were the form of Stevie Gray after his injury problems and yet another goal by Andrew McLeod.
Gray has not had much of a look-in at first team level recently but he demonstrated his readiness to get back as soon as he is needed. Gray and John McMaster provided an impressive mid-field link up helping to create the trio of goals for Brian Mitchell, Paul Wright and McLeod who netted his eighth goal in as many games.
With more than an hour gone it looked a simple, cruising victory for Dons but then the visitors suddenly took charge to hit two in 15 minutes. "I wouldn't complain too much about that," said coach Teddy Scott. "Hamilton are one of the best Reserve sides we have played, with plenty of experience. I have been particularly impressed with the form of Brian Irvine who has certainly grown in confidence after his spell in the first team. He responds well to encouragement."
Scott added: "This was a thoroughly entertaining game in which both teams played very well in spells."
