The home side started the match much better than the Dons and they created the first chance of the match in the 3rd minute when Crawford made space on the left before setting up N'Diaye. Fortunately the Dons were able to clear, but two minutes later N'Diaye went close again before Kjaer rushed out to smother. The keeper was injured in the challenge and needed lengthy treatment. The Dons had to wait until the 11th minute before creating their first half chance, which came from a weak header by Derek Young. A minute later Mackie tried to take advantage of a clearance held up in the wind. Unfortunately his lob was well off target.
The Dons finally got forward in the 35th minute, but could only offer a 35-yard speculative shot from McNaughton which did little to concern the keeper. Two minutes later Kjaer rescued the Dons again as he saved a Skerla effort on the line following a corner kick. The Dons had a couple of half chances before the break. Firstly Mike released Young wide on the right, but the striker delayed and was eventually forced wide. In the final minute Winters hit a fierce drive which was blocked by the Pars defence.
Dunfermline weathered this early storm and they went close themselves on the hour mark when Crawford went on a penetrating run and hit the side netting. The game then lost a lot of it's shape and became littered with errors. Kjaer was eventually forced to leave the field in the 74th minute following a second hefty challenge. It finally burst into life again in the closing minutes with both sides having chances to win it. Thomson should have scored in the 88th minute, but sliced his shot from six yards out. Then in injury time both Mackie and Thornley had shots blocked. To be fair it would have been a bit of a steal if the Dons had grabbed all three points at this stage.
