After dropping a disastrous home point on the Saturday against St Mirren table toppers Aberdeen simply had to beat United at Tannadice to maintain their challenge. Even without injured Joe Harper and Davie Robb, Aberdeen proved too strong for United with skipper Martin Buchan netting a rare goal to help them on their way. Jim Forrest put the match out of United's reach with a second half strike and had wee Joe Harper been fit one can only presume the scoreline would have been even more emphatic Harper was still the country's leading goalscorer with 26 goals to his credit to date, with a certain Drew Jarvie of Airdrie in second position with 20 goals.
