Aberdeen made a positive start to the match and Booth and Zdrilic both had half chances in the opening minute. The two combined to produce the opener in the third minute when Booth turned his marker well before finding Zdrilic six yards out. The Aussie calmly slotted the ball past Dubourdeau to give Aberdeen a dream start. Four minutes later Sheerin tried his luck from long range but the keeper easily saved the effort.
Kilmarnock had another escape on the half hour mark when McNaughton scraped the post after being picked out by Zdrilic. Kilmarnock had a rare venture forward in the 39th minute, but Invincible was well wide with his effort. Three minutes later Sheerin sent a shot inches wide after being set up by the impressive Tosh. Just on half time Booth tried to lob the keeper, but he was alert to the danger and the home side were glad to hear the half time whistle go.
The Dons wrapped up the points within three minutes of the restart when Booth fired in a third and decisive start following good build up play from McNaughton and Tosh. Muirhead picked up a nasty knock in the 49th minute in a rash challenge. The youngster required lengthy treatment, but the match official was happy to let the challenge go unpunished. On the hour mark Anderson picked up a knock and was replaced by Diamond.
Aberdeen comfortably controlled the game and held out for a deserved win in what was easily their finest performance of the season. They could have added to their tally, but everyone at Pittodrie is delighted with the outcome and hopes that this is a taster for the rest of the season.
