Out of the two teams Aberdeen always looked the more likely to score. Darren Mackie looped a chance just over the bar and the lively Richard Foster missed a good opportunity. There were some experienced faces in the Dons line up including midfielder Paul Sheerin who forced the Hearts keeper into two fine saves.
The Dons were made to pay for not taking their changes however, when in the 86th minute a lack of concentration from a throw-in allowed Mathu King the opportunity to win the game for Hearts, which the youngster duly took.
"The problem is at the moment we are not scoring enough goals at this level. That is something we are going to have to look to improve in the weeks ahead. We are well organised and work hard but the team needs to carry more of a goal threat."
As well as the overall performance the other plus side for the Dons was appearance of defender Jamie McQuilken. The summer signing completed his first 90 minutes since the home defeat against Livingston at the end of September.
