HT Score: Aberdeen 1 - 0 Dunfermline Athletic

Premier Division
Aberdeen scorers: Jess 6, Smith 60.

28/01/1998 | KO: 19:45

The Dons started well with Eoin Jess firing just past the post from the edge of the box. Dunfermline failed to heed the early warning and Jess scored the opener on six minutes with a bouncing shot which went past Westwater into the right corner.Jess almost scored an identical second but Westwater gathered the ball at the second attempt. Westwater pulled off yet another outstanding save just before half time, first from Jess and then from Michael O'Neill.

The Dons almost doubled their lead at the beginning of the second half when Michael O'Neill just failed to get on the end of a Stephen Glass cross but the Dons made it two on the hour mark following an excellent solo run from Gary Smith who beat 4 players before slotting the ball home from 12 yards. A great team move almost resulted in a third for the Dons but Michael O'Neill's volleyed effort went just over the bar.
