Aberdeen managed a draw against the league leaders to pick up a well-earned point. The first effort came after just four minutes when Darren Mackie's good run caused problems for Celtic's Bobby Petta, but the youngster's cross was too close to Jonathan Gould. In the 21st minute, Celtic's Alan Thompson found himself in good space, and he delivered a dangerous cross to the back post, but Larsson couldn't get on to the end of it. Derek Young showed some frustration in the 23rd minute when he was booked for clipping the heels of Thompson. In the 27th minute, Eoin Jess had an effort held by Gould. Just four minutes later Robbie Winters had an effort, but his shot went wide of the target. Derek Whyte was booked for a foul on Larrson just moments later, he became the 2nd Don to be booked. Celtic suffered a 37th minute blow when Alan Thomson pulled his hamstring, and had to be replaced by Frenchman Stephane Adam. Celtic nearly took the lead in the 42nd minute when a Larrson free-kick went just wide of the target. Right on half-time, Pittodrie erupted when Jess found Young, he fed it to Winters who calmy lifted it over Gould. The Dons started the second half confidently, with a Jess free-kick almost finding the head of McGuire, but Celtic keeper Gould got to the ball first. Aberdeen almost made it 2-0 in the 60th minute, when Winters headed in a Jess cross, after good work from Mackie, but the ex-Dundee United hitman headed just over. Celtic started to press forward, and they managed the equaliser with only eight minutes remaining on the clock. It was Henrik Larrson who headed home, his tenth goal of the season helping the visitors to a point. Two minutes later, Bobby Petta who had a poor game, was sent off for a second bookable offence. The Dons pressed forward in hope of a late winner, but it wasn't to be and the game finished 1-1, a good result and a great Dons performance.
