Dons Inflict Hibs 1st Home Defeat

The Dons pulled off one of the performances of the season, to beat on-form Hibs 2-0, inflicting the first home defeat on the Easter Road side in this campaign.

The game started slowly, with the Dons holding possesion well, and looking the more likely to score first. New siging Alex Di Rocco was making his first start of the season, and the big striker caused trouble to the Hibs defence with some clever running early on.

In the 17th minute, Di Rocco came close when he got onto the end of a cross, and forced Colgan into a save. Two minutes later, Guntveit had a chance to break the deadlock, but the Norwegian's attempted chip was from a tight angle and the ball sailed harmlessly over the bar.

After 29 minutes, Di Rocco forced Colgan to make a save, but it didn't trouble the former Chelsea keeper too much.

In the 33rd minute, Hibs created their first real opportunity when Dirk Lehmann got onto the end of a Zitteli pass, but his spectacular effort missed the target by some distance.

Five minutes before the break the home side were gifted an opportunity when the Dons gave away an in-direct free kick in the penalty area. Sauzee stepped up but couldn't force Esson into a save, the ball crashing off the defensive wall which stood its ground well.

Robbie Winters had a fine shot on the hour mark, but Nick Colgan was equall to the challange. Five minutes later, Derek Whyte slipped the ball to Winters who crossed for STAVRUM, and the big Norwegian turned the ball home to make it 1-0 to the Dons.

Stavrum had a good chance to make it 2-0 moments later, only to be denied by Colgan. Three minutes before the final whistle Ryan Esson made a great save from Frank Sauzee, denying Hibs the equaliser. Substitute Andreas Mayer then hit the bar and Winters came close with minutes remaining, before MAYER finally made it 2-0, converting a Winter's cross from close range.

Afterwards Ebbe Skovdahl praised his team for what he described as 'a tremendous team effort which hopefully goes some way to rewarding the fans' loyalty'.
