Di Rocco Double Rescues a Point

An Alex Di Rocco double helped the Dons pull back a 3-1 defecit to earn a draw at home to Motherwell in a six goal Pittodrie thriller against Motherwell this afternoon. Aberdeen had the bulk of the possesion in the first half, and after only four minutes they earned their first corner. Di Rocco had the ball in the net, but the Frenchman was correctly pulled up, having moved into an offside position.

Derek Whyte almost got his first Dons goal in 99 appearances, but his header was evetually deflected past by Well's Ged Brannan. Moments later Greg Strong nearly headed into his own net to give the Dons the lead, but the ball flew wide of the target.

In the fourteenth minute, Lee McCulloch sprinted down the wing, crossed for TOWNSLEY, and he netted with a low shot to Ryan Esson's left to make it 1-0 to the visitors, very much against the run of play. It took Motherwell 26 minutes to earn their first corner of the match, and by that point the Dons had earned six.

Esson gathered the ball comfortably to thwart the visitors' attack. McCulloch came close in the 31st minute, and just a minute later, a good run from Di Rocco gave Derek Young an opportunity, but he couldn't find the target. Robbie Winters showed some good touches, and in the 37th minute he made a great run which ended in a poor shot that gave Goram no problems.

Arild Stavrum had an effort just two minutes later just wide, but moments later he made it 1-1. Di Rocco had a long range effort on goal saved by Goram, but STAVRUM was there to make it 1-1.

Aberdeen's joy was short lived however, as just two minutes later LEE McCULLOCH made it 2-1 to the visitors, nutmegging Esson in the process.

The second half started slowly, but in the 52nd minute, the Dons nearly grabbed a second. Di Rocco rounded Goram, but the Frenchman's shot was cleared off the line by Benito Kemble.

Lee McCULLOCH looked to have sealed Well's win in the 69th minute, when he fired home to make it 3-1 to the visitors.

However DI ROCCO finally got on the score sheet when he struck to make it 3-2 with eleven minutes remaining.

Despite the Dons piling on the pressure, they couldn't grab a goal within the ninety minutes of play. However, in the 3rd minute of stoppage time, DI ROCCO capitalized on an Andy Goram mistake, when he spilled a long range effort from substitute Eoin Jess to make it 3-3, and earn the Dons a much deserved point.
