Young Dons cup win over Clyde

The young Dons made it through to the 4th round of the SFA Scottish Youth Cup but only after being made to work extremely hard by a stuffy Clyde outfit who are managed by ex Don Dougie Bell.

The home side got themselves off to the perfect start when Andy Bagshaw made a break down the right and, although he was fouled by Hastie, referee Sim sensibly played the advantage, allowing the former Scotland schoolboy international to fire in a cross-cum-shot from an acute angle that had Scott beaten all ends up.

However, the reds advantage lasted a mere five minutes and when the visitors were awarded a free kick some twenty five yards out, Harris noticed Greg Kelly had strayed off of this line. The defender then sent an inch perfect effort over the head of the backtracking keeper for the equaliser.

The goal saw Clyde confidence visibly rise and Kelly did well to save from both McClellan and McKeever before the Dons restored their lead in the 26th minute. The Clyde defence failed to clear their lines and the ball fell to BAGSHAW who fired in an angled right foot drive from fifteen yards.

The second half was an even affair with the visitors probably creating the greater number of chances, notably a hurried Hastie shot in 66 minutes, after McGowan had dispossessed Andrew Considine, when he really should have scored.

With seven minutes to go, Aberdeen put the game beyond their plucky opponents when, following a corner that was only half cleared, Bagshaw fired in a shot that was headed into the path of skipper for the day Considine, who fired a sweet volley high into the net to complete the scoring.
