10 up Dons go goal Crazy

Venue: Almelo

The Dons ended their pre-season tour of Holland in style with one of their biggest wins in years against amateur side Rietvogels in Almelo tonight.

It was an unusual looking Dons line up. Jamie Smith was at left back! I doubt it is a position he has played very often. In a 4-3-3 formation Stuart Smith partnered Severin in defence, the midfield trio were de Visscher, Pawlett and Stewart with Maguire, Paton and trialist Camero up front. There were only three substitutes named due to fatigue.

It did not take Aberdeen long to get their scoring going. Skipper Scott Severin volleyed in a Maguire cross after only two minutes. Then on six minutes it was two. Peter Pawlett drove the ball home after Paton had his effort blocked.

Although the Dons were in complete control their next goal did not come until the 36 minute. Severin played a long through ball from the back and Camero calmly rounded the keeper to make it three. Four minutes later Pawlett set up Maguire. Chris crossed into the box. The ball was half cleared and Jeffrey de Visscher was on hand to smash the ball into the net.

Into the second half and the goals kept coming.

Maguire hit a shot from the edge of the box. The keeper got a hand to it but the ball still went into the bottom right hand corner. 49 minutes and after fine set up play by Paton he squared it to Camero who finished nicely. 58 minutes and it was 7. de Visscher did all the spade work down the right, he set up Maguire who put the ball into the right hand corner. Just after the hour mark it looked as though Maguire had got his hat-trick. He cut in from the left and shot. The defender and keeper almost did enough to stop the ball going over the line so Camero tapped in to make sure - also making sure he got his hat-trick instead!

He then got his fourth after 65 minutes. Stuart Duff put in a good cross which Camero met first time.

McDonald replaced Pawlett after 68 minutes. The scoring was complete in 73 minutes. Michael Paton, who had played well all night but not managed to get himself on the score sheet, made it 10. Maguire swung in a corner. Paton ran off the defender and put arguably his most difficult chance of the night away well.
