After losing 3-0, the U19s lost another three goals but put on a much better performance against Rangers at Balgownie. There was also good news for the Dons with both Peter Pawlett and Ryan Jack making the starting line up. Pawlett broke his hand recently and it was feared he could be out for up to 12 weeks but thankfully he was able to play with a cast on it. Jack broke his foot during the summer and missed the whole of pre-season. After an even opening period, Campbell gave Rangers the lead. He picked the ball up about 30 yards out, was not closed down and fired a shot low into Bain's left hand corner. Aberdeen then had a couple of good chances, the best of which fell to Gary Carroll at the back post but his effort was blocked. On the stroke of half a hammer blow for the Dons, as Campbell grabbed his second to make it 2-0.
Neil Cooper's team talk at half time seemed to do the job as the Dons stopped showing their opponents so much respect and got stuck in. They got their rewards and pulled a goal back on 50 minutes, when Callum McRobbie did well down the right, beating a couple of players, and crossing for Meggieson who finished well. The Dons continued to press and it looked as though they had got a deserved equaliser but referee Potten adjudged that the keeper had been impeded, when it actually looked as if he had just dropped the ball. Shortly after that Aberdeen received a killer blow when Rangers made it three. They gave the ball away in a bad area and were punished for it, Campbell with the goal to complete his hat-trick.

After the game Neil Cooper said, "There were a lot of positives to take from the game. We played some good football at times and I did not think there was much between the teams. It was great to have Peter back - credit to him for playing with the cast. He is a quality player. It was also great to have Ryan Jack back in his first game since last season. He will have benefited from playing the 90 minutes. The negatives were the defending again, three goals last week and three this week. It is a young team and they are still learning but they have to learn quickly. The poor goals take away from the performance."
