1860 Munich 1 - 0 Aberdeen

Tommy Wright and Bert Bossu were unavailable for selection due to injury.

When the players woke up this morning it looked very unlikely that there would be a game today. There has been torrential rain in the area over night with massive thunderstorms. Thankfully the game which was played about 80km from the training base went ahead. The pitch actually looked in good condition considering all the rain. All the other games in the area arranged for today were cancelled.

The weather was a lot cooler than it has been all week - something I am sure the players were pleased about! The mountain they all climbed up the other day is now covered in snow!

1860 Munich were always going to provide tough opposition. They recently draw 1-1 with Manchester City in a pre-season friendly.

The Dons as expected played a 4-3-3 formation with Richard Foster right back, Charlie Mulgrew on the left and Zander and Andy forming the central defensive partnership. The midfield three were Gary McDonald, Mark Kerr and Stuart Duff. In the forward line Lee Miller was joined by Sone Aluko and Chris Maguire.

Mark McGhee, who did not let the players know who was playing until quite near kick off, handed Gary McDonald the captain's armband for the day just before the match. The manager has said he might try out a few players before deciding on who his captain should be and he would not announce his decision until the Celtic match.

The manager has also said all along that he was more concerned about the performance and less bothered about the result today and he will have been qauite pleased with the way Aberdeen passed the ball and held onto possession.

The Dons did not have many clear cut chances during the game. The best of which fell to Chris Maguire early on but he fired wide.

1860 Munich also had spells of good possession and most of their players looked quite comfortable on the ball. The only goal of the game came just before the break. The 1860 left back Jose Holebas first of all fluffed a shot which hit Richard Foster. Lucky for the German side the ball broke off Richard and fell again to the left back who hit a superb strike from the edge of the box which went in off Langfield's bar. The keeper had no chance.

At half time Derek Young came on for Stuart Duff, Mackie replaced Maguire up front as did Paton who replaced Aluko and Reda Johnson came on for Andrew Considine to play on the left side of centre defence. Mark McGhee is keen to sign the big Frenchman and the defender put in a good assured performance.

Just before the hour mark the other two trialists who have been training with the Dons got their chance to impress. German forward Marcus Steegmann came on for Lee Miller and Polish defender Jakub Dziolka replaced Zander. Finally ten minutes before the end of the game Foster made way for Rogvi Holm and Mark Kerr for Sammy Stewart.

All the substitutions did not help the flow of the game in the second half. This was very much a pre-season game. The German side had a few chances to add to their lead but 1-0 was probably a fair scoreline. Still a decent enough start for Aberdeen. The team travelled to Salzburg this evening and are staying in the Austrian city. They are flying back to Edinburgh tomorrow afternoon and will be back in Aberdeen tomorrow night. Next up for the Dons is Peterhead on Wednesday.
