WIPE OUT 3-GOAL DEFICIT
ARMSTRONG HAS THREE
Playing their second match on successive days, Aberdeen F.C. defeated the Lourenco Marques team by six goals to four at Johannesburg yesterday after being 4-1 down at the interval. On Saturday the Scottish side were not so fortunate, losing to a combined Transvaal team by four goals to two. Heavy rain made the turf and the ball slippery, militating against good football. The home side won the toss and pressed hard from the start. They were faster and combined better than the Dons.THREE DOWN
Isac opened the scoring for the South Africans and added another a little later. Texeira got a third before Armstrong reduced Aberdeen's arrears. Just before half-time Ferreira restored his side's three-goal lead. The dash of the home team seemed to have evaporated after the resumption, whereas the Aberdeen players were still as fresh ever. The visitors attacked throughout and penned the home side in their own half, except when they made occasional raids. Armstrong quickly scored with a beautiful drive to make the score 4-2. and soon afterwards Beynon and Devine each netted to equalise. Beynon again scored to put his side in front, and just before the end Armstrong obtained his third goal.SIXTH VICTORY
In their eight matches so far played Aberdeen have now scored twenty-seven goals and conceded sixteen. They have won six and lost twice.Source: Press & Journal, 14th June 1937
