Dons' Big Win

Dash and enthusiasm when opposed to skill and cohesion, are of little avail. The Dons proved this by their substantial victory over St Bernards at Pittodrie on Saturday. The Edinburgh team made a fight of it in the early stages, but gradually the home team monopolised play. Arthur Milne gave a clever display at centre and introduced himself to the Aberdeen folk with a hat-trick.

Lack of Drive

Although they did register a decisive win, Aberdeen's display was not altogether satisfactory. There seemed to be a lack of drive about the whole side. Are they overconfident? The first goal came after fourteen minutes. Milne trapped a cross from Donaldson and presented McCall with a gilt-edged chance, which he promptly accepted. A faulty pass back by Ancell three minutes later saw St Bernards regain equality through W. Wilkie, but Milne restored the Dons' lead after a shot by Dyer had been blocked, and McCall, with a neat header from a cross from McLeod, got a third goal just on the interval.

Second Half

In the second half Milne increased the home total from a cross from Taylor. Dyer picked up a pass from McLeod, cut in, and beat Matthews with a terrific drive. In the closing minutes the left-winger made the total six and Milne completed his hat-trick.
