Dons Fail to Snap Their Chances

Aberdeen meet Dunfermline, home and away, in the first round of the North-Eastern League Cup competition next month. If the Dons are to qualify to meet Rangers in the second stage they will have to win decisively at Pittodrie. The Fifers thoroughly merited their victory on Saturday. They seized their chances. The Dons provided most of the skilful football, and had the forwards taken even half of their scoring opportunities they would not have lost this game.
Changes will have to be made in this department if Aberdeen intent to atone for their League championship failure by winning the Cup. Donaldson was the only forward who really looked dangerous. Armstrong showed clever touches but, like the others, his finishing was poor. Dunlop gave good service at right half, and Lyon was sound at centre-half. Cooper was the better back. The Dunfermline defence relied on first-time methods. Hill was a safe keeper, and Hogg a reliable back. Milton was a dangerous winger, and Kinnell and Dawson were enterprising inside forwards.
Dunfermline led by a single goal at the interval. It came twenty six minutes after the start when Kinnell headed home a corner kick by Hunter. The second half was only three minutes old when they got a second goal. Graham intercepted a cross, but before he could clear, Dawson first-timed the ball into the net.

Aberdeen's Goal

Seven minutes later Aberdeen got their goal. When Lyon lobbed the ball into the goalmouth Bain ran it into the net while the Dunfermline defence hesitated. A mix up between Lyon and Johnstone led to Kinnell scoring the Fifers' third goal.
