Rangers 1 - 2 Aberdeen

BY reason of their well-merited victory by the odd goal in three over Rangers at Ibrox, Aberdeen are now in second place in the North-Eastern League. They are still three points behind Rangers, who have, however, played two more games.
The Dons are now in a strong challenging position. By defeating Rangers their own ground, the Pittodrie team has surmounted what can be considered their most difficult hurdle from home.
The result does not do justice to Aberdeen's margin of superiority. From first to last they were ahead of their opponents in all phases of the game. There was balance and power in defence; the halfbacks were resolute and clever. The attack scintillated at times. It had poise and thrust, and it executed its moves with speed and precision. All over, the team's display was highly satisfactory.
Rangers, with such players as Jerry Dawson, Young, the first team pivot, and Parlane, who before joining the Forces was considered an outstanding capture, were expected to win by their supporters, but on the day's play they were beaten by a better team.
Johnstone in the Aberdeen goal had his anxious moments, but was confident throughout. Cooper and Dyer were sound at back. Russell and Taylor were at their best at wing half. In fact, Taylor played his best game since he returned to the team following his illness. Dunlop was superior to Young at centrehalf.
Matt Armstrong has played many fine games for the Dons, but he has given no better display than at Ibrox. Outstanding feature about his showing on Saturday was the easy way in which he hoodwinked the Rangers pivot.
Pattillo and Green were grand inside supports. They not only assisted in defence, but went through with the ball cleverly. Miller on the right was at his best in the second half, and the club need not hesitate about playing McKenna on when the necessity arises.
Dawson was not to blame for Bangers' defeat. He is back to his best. There is promise about Gray at right back. Dougal was the best half-back. The home attack was too well held to be impressive.
