Kilmarnock Beaten 3-0 In Victory Cup Tie

Following their great achievement in the League Cup final at Hampden, Aberdeen scored another notable success last night when they beat Kilmarnock at Rugby Park by three clear goals in the replay of the second round of the Victory Cup.

Aberdeen showed three changes from the side which won at Hampden, Waddell deputising for Dunlop, who is injured; Wailbanks coming in on the right wing, and Billy Strauss on the left.
In Dunlop's absence, Andy Cowie skippered the side. The fact that Wallbanks and Strauss were both crippling early in the game makes the Dons' win all the more creditable. They were by far the better side in a game which was "tousy" throughout.
The tie was a triumph for Waddell at centre-half. In his proper position as pivot he gave a display which won the admiration of everyone.
Johnstone, Cooper and McKenna were very sound, and both Cowie and Taylor were at their best.
In this game George Hamilton showed that his exclusion from the Scottish team to meet Switzerland to-morrow was a mistake. He was the outstanding player afield.
Archie Baird was little behind. The lanky inside-left initiated many dangerous raids.
Even though they were limping from well before the interval Wallbanks and Strauss more than paid their way.
All the scoring took place after the interval. The Dons were definitely superior and it was no surprise when they took the lead in the sixteenth minute of the second half.
Baird was the scorer of a goal similar to that which he netted at Hampden. He jumped high to a Hamiiton corner, and nodded the ball into the net well out of Downie's reach.
Four minutes later Aberdeen were two up. Wallbanks chased ball from Williams. He hit it powerfully, and it rebounded from Downie against Turnbull and off him into the net.
Kilmarnock fought back hard for a period, but Aberdeen gradually regained supremacy, and ten minutes from the end they scored again.
It was a real South African counter this. Strauss raced through and shot. The keeper could not hold the ball, which broke clear to Stan Williams, who was left with nothing to do but shoot into the net.
