These teams met at Pittodrie, Aberdeen, on Saturday in the semi-final round for the County Cup. There was a fair attendance when the teams lined up as follows:- Aberdeen A: Herd; Willox, Brebner; Davidson, Thompson, Robertson; Harvey, Hilton, Hamilton, Jaffrey, Smith.
Aberdeen University: Clark; Petrie, Gerrard; Garden, Gourly, Ross; Cato, McEchran, Bremner, Smith, Macdonald.
Referee - Mr. McKenzie, Dundee.
Aberdeen opened briskly, and in the first minute Clark had to fist out. The 'Varsity backs brought relief, and play for a time was vigorously contested in Aberdeen's territory. The students tried hard to open the scoring, but failed to make any impression on the Aberdeen backs, who punted hard down the field on nearly every occasion. The Aberdeen half-back line forced play to the other end, and Davidson passed neatly to Harvey, who rushed the ball, giving Clark no chance to save. After this success the A's were all over their opponents, and Jaffrey on two occasions failed miserably when near goal. Aberdeen forced the game, and shortly after a corner kick Davidson sent in a high shot, which Hamilton neatly put beyond Clark's reach with his head. The students got away occasionally, but the Pittodrie backs had no difficulty in clearing their lines. There was no more scoring, Aberdeen leading by two goals to nil at half-time.
On resuming, the A's forwards ran right up the field, and Clark had no little difficulty in keeping out the ball. Aberdeen were very dangerous in front of goal, and kept their opponents well in hand. Ross was not giving much scope to Harvey, who was very dangerous when on the run. After fifteen minutes' play, Hamilton scored a third goal. Aberdeen after this were all over their opponents, and the game ended in a victory for Aberdeen by 4 goals to 0, Hilton scoring the fourth point.
