Aberdeen A were unfortunate to lose at Montrose, where they suffered defeat by three goals to two after a hot game. They were the sounder side, and, with the exception of a short period towards the close, were generally the stronger lot. Some of their attacks were very stubborn and sustained, but the van did not shoot with the precision which gets goals. In the open the easily lead, and Montrose half to thank an untiring and a dour defence were giving them the points. The game was one each at the interval, and the homesters lucky to be on level terms.
On resuming Montrose at once scored a second goal, but from then until the last 8 minutes Aberdeen held the upper hand, pressing severely, and having hard lines in not getting more than the equalising goal. Montrose came away in an unexpected manner when things were going against them, and one somewhat sensationally. Aberdeen were a finely balanced side. Hannah was the better back, and Davidson the star of the middle line. He was the best half-back on the ground. JJ Simpson played well. The van worked in harmony, Towns distributing judiciously, the three inside men playing best. Ritchie had both goals to his credit. The visitors made a powerful effort in the last minute to square, but were repulsed.
